Quadripartite = an image divided by four

The Quadripartite Series is an ongoing body of work that Hoey began during the 1990s. He considers it an 'alternate' style, and he occasionally works in this direction. By definition, it is simple approach, yet it yields startling results. What he does is create 2 pair of images; each pair related to each other, then juxtapose the 2 pair and let each pair play off each other to suggest a larger suspended narrative. While you look at each work, it gives the viewer an incomplete picture of what the narrative is and it is left up to you to complete the mental picture and sense emotions contained within it.

Hoey's approach reflects a post modernist's true desires; suggest a narrative then negate it. It is insanely modern and contemporary. While many artists today simply replicate photographs without showing much creativity the format he has developed is inspirational, and provides a more engaging narrative to an image. He welcomes all artists to use his innovative format shown here.

This last work may not be appropriate for this page as it 'reads' like a typical serial image; left to right, top to bottom, with a clear narrative shown. However, it was an important work for me which lead to this series.
